Jamaat Ameer at Khan Jahan Ali Thana Jamaat Workers' Conference

National unity is crucial to address national issues

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the honorable Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, stated that Bangladesh has an unparalleled tradition of communal harmony. However, in the last fifteen years, a single party had caused chaos in the country. Now, there is a need for the people’s unshakable unity on national issues. He said, "This country does not belong to anyone individually; it belongs to all. The country has not yet been cleared of the debris of the past fifteen years. Therefore, we must move the country forward through united efforts. Everyone must come forward to build a dignified nation. It is essential to focus on agriculture and industry, not dependence."

Jamaat Ameer further stated, "The Awami League destroyed two patriotic institutions of the country. First, they destroyed the patriotic army and BDR by executing 57 brave army officers under the guise of a rebellion. Then, they gradually killed Jamaat's top leaders through judicial executions and imprisonment. But the peace-loving students and people of this country responded to their oppression through the mass uprising of July-August."

He made these comments as the chief guest at a workers' conference organized by Khan Jahan Ali Thana Jamaat in the local Eastern Jute Mills labor field on Sunday, 1st December. The conference was presided over by Thana Ameer Syed Hasan Mahmud Tito and hosted by Secretary Gazi Morshed Mamun. The special guests included Jamaat’s Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, and Central Executive Council member and coordinator for the Jessore-Kushtia region Mobarak Hossain.

Among others, Central Organizational Secretary and Khulna Region’s coordinator Muaddis Abdul Khalek, Central Working Council member and Assistant coordinator of Khulna Region Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, team member Master Shafiqul Alam, Khulna District Ameer Maulana Imran Hossain, Khulna City Amir Professor Mahfuzur Rahman, and Narail District Ameer Advocate Ataur Rahman Bachchu.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further mentioned that the allies of the Awami League dictatorship are still trying to destabilize the country, but we must not fall into their traps. No matter how many conspiracies they try, we must defeat them. He emphasized that the country has still not been freed from corruption and dictatorship. Thus, there is no alternative to the unity of the people for national needs.

Criticizing the fascist government, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "For the past fifteen years, the Awami League has turned the country into a prison. If anyone spoke against them, they were killed, disappeared, tortured, and imprisoned. The people of this country took to the streets with slogans for justice to free the country from fascism. Now, it is our responsibility to provide a safe future for them. Every Jamaat worker must work with this goal in mind."

Professor Mia Golam Porwar highlighted the two major problems in this region: mills and bills. He said both were destroyed during the Awami League's tenure. On one hand, 26 state-owned jute mills were shut down, leaving workers unemployed; on the other hand, various water bodies were seized, and sluice gates were closed, submerging thousands of people. Due to corruption in administration, the mills turned into loss-making enterprises, but the blame was shifted to the workers. Recalling how the Dumuria-Fultola area was once infested with terrorism, he said, "After I was elected MP, I did my best to make the area free from terrorism. If the people give me the responsibility again, I will try my utmost to solve the major problems with long-term planning, Insha Allah."

Earlier in the morning, at 7:30 AM, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressed a women’s gathering as the chief guest organized by the Khulna City Jamaat-e-Islami Women's Division at Al Faruq Society in the city. The meeting was chaired by the Women's Division Secretary Shamsun Nahar. Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar attended the program as the special guest. The welcome speech was given by Khulna city Secretary Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal. Other attendees included Khulna City Ameer Professor Mahfuzur Rahman, Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Najibur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Advocate Shah Alam, and Principal Sheikh Jahangir Alam.
