Today, Wednesday, His Excellency Mr. Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen, the Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The meeting took place at the Ameer’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Mr. Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, the Political Adviser to the Ambassador, was also present on the occasion.
The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere. At the beginning of the discussion, His Excellency the Ambassador inquired about Jamaat Ameer’s health condition and wished him a speedy and complete recovery.
During the meeting, the upcoming national election of Bangladesh was described as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic progress. Jamaat leaders sought Norway’s overall cooperation and technical assistance to ensure the election is held in a free, fair, and credible manner. Constructive discussions were also held regarding the establishment of sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring the independence and effective functioning of democratic institutions.
Both sides expressed hope that bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Norway would further expand and strengthen in the future.
From Jamaat-e-Islami, party’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Mr. Mia Golam Porwar; Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; Central Executive Committee Member Mr. Mobarak Hossain; and Jamaat Ameer’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan were present during the meeting.
