A post-election dialogue was held yesterday, Tuesday, 20 January, at 4:00 pm at Hotel Sheraton Dhaka, organized by BRAC Bank. Leaders of various political parties, journalists, researchers, intellectuals, and members of civil society participated in the event.
Central Majlish-e-Shura Member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Advocate Atiqur Rahman, spoke on behalf of the party on the post-election political situation, democracy, and good governance.
In the program, he said that the post-election period should not be viewed merely as a phase of transfer of power; rather, it should be considered a critical opportunity to rebuild public trust, ensure state credibility, and strengthen democratic institutions. He further noted that without an acceptable and credible electoral process, political stability and sustainable development are not possible.
Atiqur Rahman added that democracy becomes truly strong only when people feel that their votes carry value and when transparency and accountability are ensured in state decision-making. Otherwise, political polarization intensifies and social instability emerges.
He stated that the core foundations of democracy are public participation, justice, and morality. During the post-election period, responsible political conduct, the development of a culture of dialogue, and respect for the constitutional framework are essential for all political forces. Expressing optimism, Atiqur Rahman said that if political legitimacy, good governance, and a justice-based state system can be ensured, Bangladesh will be able to move forward toward an inclusive and stable future.
