A devastating fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon, October 14, at a garment factory and a chemical warehouse in the Shialbari area of Mirpur, Dhaka. So far, 16 people have tragically lost their lives, and several others have been severely injured.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, visited the fire-ravaged garment factory and chemical warehouse tonight. He inspected various parts of the factory and spoke with concerned officials. He also discussed the situation with the administration, law enforcement agencies, and fire service officials present at the scene.
During the visit, he was accompanied by Dhaka City North Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, Jamaat-nominated candidate for Dhaka-14 constituency Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem (Arman), and Jamaat-nominated candidate for Dhaka-16 constituency Colonel (Retd.) Abdul Baten.
While inspecting the site, Jamaat Ameer inquired about the deceased and the injured and announced immediate financial assistance of Tk. 100,000 for each bereaved family. He also instructed party officials to take prompt and necessary measures regarding this matter.
Expressing deep sympathy for the families of the deceased and injured, the Jamaat Ameer said, “It is our humanitarian duty to stand beside the families affected by this tragedy.” He urged the government, affluent individuals in society, humanitarian organizations, and local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to come forward in support of the affected families.
Earlier, in a statement, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman prayed for the salvation of the departed souls and expressed profound sympathy for the injured. He called for an impartial investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire, appropriate punitive measures against those responsible, and necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. He also urged the authorities concerned to provide adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure comprehensive medical treatment for the injured.
