A meeting was held between a US based International Foundation for Electoral System and the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at a hotel in Gulshan on Thursday, 26th September.
The meeting highlighted the role and efforts of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami regarding democracy and also for facilitating a free, fair, impartial and acceptable elections in Bangladesh. Jamaat-e-Islami representatives mentioned the historic role of Jamaat in previous democratic movements in Bangladesh. They stated that, Jamaat-e-Islami is an election-oriented party. The Jamaat leaders shared information about the participation and victory of Jamaat-e-Islami in the national parliament elections.
In the changed situation after August 5, Jamaat-e-Islami is emphasizing on the goal of transferring power to the elected representatives by holding free, fair and acceptable elections after completing necessary reforms in various important sectors. The representatives of US-based organization IFES expressed their satisfaction with the role of Jamaat in establishing democracy in Bangladesh and aiming for free, fair and credible elections.
The delegation members of Jamaat-e-Islami and IFES stressed on the necessary reforms for free, fair and participatory elections in Bangladesh.
On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, Central Executive Council Member and party’s Central Publicity and Media Secretary Mr. Matiur Rahman Akanda and Central Working Council Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar were present. The delegation of IFES was represented by 5 members including its Country Director Taniel Bedia Tyshi, Consultant Catholic Barnes and Fernadus Burin.
