Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar's speech to the nation is given below:-

“Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

All praises to Almighty Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet (pbuH)

Dear journalist friends and the countrymen,

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.

We have come before you with a broken heart. You have already witnessed, the entire Bangladesh including the educational institutions of Bangladesh is stained with blood today. The academic careers of the students are deeply uncertain now. All educational institutions of Bangladesh including Dhaka University have been declared closed already. The students have been forced to leave the hall.

As you all know, for last couple of days, the students of the country have been peacefully protesting demanding reform of the existing quota system in public services. Since the beginning, the government has demonstrated their indifference and reluctance attitude about the students' movement and their just demands. The students' movement has reached a decisive stage as various political parties and civil forums including the teachers' association, journalists, intellectuals, lawyers, religious scholars have supported the students' movement. The government has complicated the situation by giving the lame excuses of the constitution and judicial courts without providing a logical solution to the student movement.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had made a sarcastic comment calling the protesting student society "grandchildren of Razakar" in a press conference held at her government residence Ganabhaban on last 14th July. Then, General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Roads, Transport and Bridges Mr. Obaidul Quader said in a press conference organized at Awami League's Dhanmondi office on July 15 noon that "Chatra League is enough to answer the self-confessed Razakars." Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hasan Mahmud and Law Minister Advocate Anisul Haque hurled derogatory remarks at students and their parents and heated up the peaceful atmosphere.

Dear countrymen and journalist friends,

After the provocative speech of the Prime Minister and other ministers of the government, Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Shechashebok League and the law enforcers forces launched joint attacks on the protesting students across the country on July 16. In the presence of the police, Chhatra League and Awami terrorists armed with various weapons including firearms, hockey sticks, spears, ramadas, iron rods attacked the protesting students.

At least 5 youths were seen firing pistols in Dhaka University campus (Prothom-alo: 16/7/2024). Chittagong Shechashebok League leader Md. Delwar was seen with his firearms and an attack has been carried out led by Nurul Azim Roni (Manab Zamin: 17/7/2024). Hasan, the former leader of Dhaka College Chhatra League, was seen attacking with a pistol. His home is Gopalganj (Jugantar: 17/7/2024). In the pictures published in various newspapers and TV channels, Chhatra League and outsider Awami terrorists were seen attacking the protesting students with firearms and they beat many of them and trampled them to the ground. Chhatra League terrorists attacked the students and the injured students are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. As the minister instigated the party goons by provocative remarks on last 15th and 16th July, the terrorists of the Chhatra League launched terrorist activities in the presence of the police across the country. So, the government is entirely responsible for the current situation of the country.

Dear countrymen,

We have observed with great concern the brutal attack by Awami terrorists on the student communities. The countrymen have seen in various video footages that Rangpur Rokeya University English department student Abu Saeed was shot dead by the police. The scene of this murder has been widely publicized in national newspapers and various social media. Chhatra League terrorists have caused the bloodshed of the ordinary students all over the country including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rangpur. In their attacks, 7 young students have been killed. These sacrifices of the students have shocked the world. Democratic countries of the world including the United Nations and human rights watchdogs have expressed concern about these brutal killings and ongoing anarchies. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we strongly condemn and protest these murder incidents. Basically, these murders incidents have been taken place as the reaction of the ministers and their remarks. So, naturally the ministers cannot avoid the responsibilities of these murders.

There was no direction or intentions in Prime Minister's address to the nation last evening (July 17) to meet the logical demands of the students. Instead, she he mentioned in her speech that the real instigators will be identified and brought under the law and strict action will be taken against them. We want to assert here that it is very explicit that among her cabinet members, who had made the provocative statements. It is also very evident from the pictorial reports that her party terrorists have attacked the protesting students. So, both the instigators and the attackers are clearly recognized and identified. So, we are demanding an impartial investigation to bring the killers to the book.

Dear Countrymen,

Besides attacking the protesting students, the government is also playing dirty games with the academic lives of these students. The problem can never be solved by closing the educational institutions and forcing the students out of the halls. We want to make it clear that the current crisis can only be resolved through a logical solution and also by fulfilling the just demands of the students. But the government has done nothing in this regard so far and they have pushed the entire student community into deep uncertainty. People cannot accept this stubborn decision of the government. As a responsible and pro-people organization, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is adamant about addressing the ongoing situation. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we are placing the following proposals:

1. The killers, who were involved in murdering 7 students must be arrested immediately and strict legal action must be taken against them.

2. The demands of the agitating students should be taken into consideration and logically resolved immediately.

3. All educational institutions should be opened immediately to facilitate the academic career of future generations.

4. Legal action must be taken against those who led the armed attacks and injured thousands of students.

5. Adequate financial compensation should be given to the families of the victims and proper medical treatment should be provided to the injured.

Dear Countrymen,

At this critical juncture of the nation, we must rise above political narrowness and raise our voice against those who are creating mayhem and anarchy in order to protect our future generations and build a united resistance against all types of violence. May Allah help us.”

Allah is Hafez. Long live Bangladesh.
Long live Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

I sincerely thank you all for listening to my speech sincerely and patiently.
