The government cannot save itself from downfall by using state force against the people

Maulana Abdul Halim

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Rangpur-Dinajpur region’s coordinator Maulana Abdul Halim said our homeland Bangladesh is crossing a crucial time now. There is no presence of democracy and freedom of speech in the country. Jamaat is not allowed to hold meeting and rallies. Citizen’s basic rights have been subdued. Anarchy and mismanagement are prevailing everywhere. People are also deprived from their political and social rights. The government has made this country a failed state due to its severe failure in all sectors.

Maulana Abdul Halim said this while addressing a leadership conference organized by Gaibandha district’s Sundarganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami. Upazila Ameer Professor Shahidul Islam presided over the conference which was hosted by Upazila secretary Professor Ataur Rahman. Maulana Abdul Halim urged the presence to play pro-active role in implementing the organizational programs ignoring fears and intimidations.

He said, the incumbent government is fearful of the mass movement and as such they have kept Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other leaders and activists behind the bar. The leaders are not allowed to be released although they are securing bail from the High Court. Rather, they are re-arresting the leaders from the jail gate by filing new cases against them. But Jamaat can never be pushed back from the movement by the means of such repression and torture.

He further said, we have repeatedly pressed the demand for holding a free, fair and credible election under a caretaker government. But the government again mulling to hold farcical election again. But the countrymen will not give them any chance to do so. Mass movement will make the government compelled to stepdown and also to facilitate an election under a caretaker government.

Among others, Jamaat’s central working committee member Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Gaibandha district Ameer Abdul Karim, district Nayeb-e-Ameer and Sundarganj Upazila council’s former chairman Professor Mazedur Rahman addressed the program.
