Dhaka University female students expelled for wearing religious attires; Jamaat’s women wing chief condemns

Central Women’s Wing Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Begum Shamsunnahar Nizami has issued the following statement on 23rd August, 2015 protesting and condemning the incident of expelling Nabila Iqbal, a 3rd year student of the Department of Psychology in Dhaka University by a Professor of the same department namely Dr. Md. Azizur Rahman only for wearing religious attires.

“By insulting and expelling a student for putting religious dress, Dr. Azizur Rahman intervened her religious rights. He has committed an unforgivable crime by expelling and abusing the students orally only for wearing religious attires. Dr. Aziz has made a huge blow upon the religious sentiment of the people. It is the constitutional right of the student to conduct his religious duties. To obstruct in performing those rituals are completely unlawful. We cannot even imagine such a poor and condemnable approach and attitude from a University Professor.

I am urging the concerned authorities to investigate the incident properly and to take due punitive and legal measures against Dr. Md. Azizur Rahman.”
