Professor Mujib protests massive arrests of Jamaat activists in Northern districts following ruling party MP\'s murder

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st January, 2017 condemning police's indiscriminate arrest of more than 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Northern districts of Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Joypurhat following the assassination of ruling party's lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 constituency Monjurul Islam Liton by the unidentified miscreants on 31st December.   "The arrest drive is going on in order to conceal the real murderers. The incident of assassinating ruling party MP by entering into his drawing room clearly substantiated the massive deterioration of law and order situation of the country.  Though the government high ups and senior officials of law enforcement agencies often claim of having a sound law and order nationwide. I am condemning this murder and urging the authority to identify the killers and to bring them to the book.   It has become a common scene that immediate after any negative incident, a blame game starts against Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir and based on such blame game, many Jammat and Chhatrashibir men are arrested and they have to face intolerable torture. But how long such oppression will continue? We have said it several times that Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir do not believe in the politics of murder. So no question is raised of any such involvement of Jamaat- Shibir men with such heinous incident. Actually this negative campaign is made just to hide the real criminals. We have seen such ill efforts of blame game in past occasions but they could not prove any involvement of Jamaat and Chhatrashibir men with those incidents ultimately.    Police has arrested more than 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Northern districts of Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Joypurhat following the assassination of ruling party's lawmaker  Liton. Ruling party goons also looted, ransacked, vandalised and set fire at the house and shop of Dr. Abdul Gaffar, a Jamaat supporter from Shundarganj. Though none of them had any involvement with the murder. I am condemning such misdeeds of the law enforcers and ruling party hooligans against Jamaat and Chhatrashibir men.   I am demanding judicial probe into those ill deeds and asking the authorities concerned to identify the miscreants and to bring them to the justice. Besides, I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule and misdeeds of the ruling party men.
