Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 26th October 2023 protesting and condemning the unlawful arrests of more than hundred Jamaat leaders and activists from a nationwide arrest drive which has been carried out to foil the pre-declared grand rally on 28th October.
“In order to foil the pre-declared grand rally on 28th October in the capital, police have arrested Dhaka south city’s Khilgaon North organizational thana Ameer Nasir Uddin, Jessore city organizing district’s assistant secretary Rezaul Karim, Comilla east organizational district Chhatrashibir Secretary Mohiuddin Roni, 5 female activists from a Quran study class from Mujibnagar of Meherpur district and hundred others from various places of the country. By arresting 5 females from a Quran study class, the government has proved themselves as an anti-Islamic force. In order to foil, Jamaat’s pre-declared grand rally of 28th October, police have been carrying out raids in the houses, offices and business institutions of party activists. They are behaving with the people inhumanly. By conducting oppression and tortures, the government has turned the entire nation into a bigger prison. I am vehemently condemning the repression, crackdown and arrest drives of the government.
Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic Islamic political party. It is the constitutional right of a party to hold meeting and procession. No one has the right to deprive a party from availing such rights. But Awami League do not believe in democracy. They want to subdue the dissident voice. The countrymen have no confidence upon this government. They do not want to see this repressor regime any more. I am urging the countrymen to raise voices against the undemocratic activities of the government.
I am calling upon the government to stop and torture at once and also to release all detained leaders of Jamaat and Islami Chhatrashibir including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman immediately. Besides, I am urging the Jamaat men and the countrymen not to be entrapped by the provocation of the government and also not to engage in any type of unconstitutional and anti-democratic activities.
