-Hamidur Rahman Azad

Talking to a private television channel, an official of Dhaka Metropolitan police stated that Jamaat-e-Islami will not be allowed to hold grand rally. Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 24th October, 2023 protesting and condemning such remark.

"Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. Jamaat had played historic role in all the previous democratic movement. Jamaat's former Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam had placed the concept of the caretaker government system in order to hold a free, fair and credible election which has attained appreciation across the world.

In accordance with the constitutional right, Jamaat-e-Islami has informed the DMP commissioner in written format seeking assistance to hold grand rally at Shapla Chattar of the capital on 28th October. Police's duty and obligation is to assist in holding peaceful processions and rallies, not to create obstruction.

But we are observing that an official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has given interview with the media in which he termed Jamaat-e-Islami as anti-liberation force and unregistered party and also said that Jamaat will not be allowed to hold grand rally in the capital. His remarks are undemocratic, unlawful and beyond his professional obligations. We are vehemently condemning and protesting such unacceptable comment of this police officer.
