Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 11th October 2023 protesting the filing of false cases against Chittagong North organizational district's Ameer Professor Nurul Amin Chowdhury, secretary Alauddin Shikdar and other top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir.
"Being a plaintiff, local Awami League leader Abdul Aziz lodged a false case on 11th October against Chittagong North organizational district's Ameer Professor Nurul Amin Chowdhury, secretary Alauddin Shikdar and other top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and 44 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatrashibir and some other 50/60 unidentified personnel. The incumbent tyrannical government are regularly filing such false cases nationwide against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. I am vehemently condemning and protesting such undemocratic activities of the government.
Awami League is already known to the people for its vindictive approaches. It is evident from the history that whenever Awami League came to the power, they filed hundreds of false cases against the opposition activists to subdue the dissident voices. They are used to do it as they are not inclined to tolerate the existence of the opposition parties. We want to assert that constitutionally Bangladesh is a democratic country and every citizens of this country has the right to exercise freedom of expression. No one has the right to deprive others from availing these rights. There is no chance to file false case against a respected citizen of the country just out of suspicion as it may affect dignity and honor of the concerned individual.
I am urging the fellow countrymen to raise voice against the unjustified activities of the government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop torture and repression at once and also to withdraw the false case which has been filed against Chittagong North organizational district's Ameer Professor Nurul Amin Chowdhury, secretary Alauddin Shikdar and other top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir immediately.
