Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 15th May 2023 expressing deep shock over the destruction and casualties caused by cyclone Mocha and simultaneously urging to serve the cyclone victims.

Cyclone Mocha hit the coastlines of Cox’s Bazar and Saint Martin island on 14th May noon. The Cyclone has ravaged the entire island. Two people have been killed, many people injured and lots of houses have been destroyed. Thousands of homeless people took shelter in the nearby shelter centers. Many trees fell down due to massive windstorms. Thousands of people are living under the open sky and they are passing miserable days. I am expressing deep shock for those who have been killed in this disaster and extending sympathy to their mournful families.

I am praying to Allah for the quick recovery of the injured. I am also calling upon the government to take due measures for facilitating the rehabilitation of the victims and also to provide them adequate compensation immediately.
