Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 6th January 2023 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Dhaka North organizational district Jamaat’s working committee member Hasan Master.

Savar Thana Police has arrested Dhaka North organizational district Jamaat’s working committee member, Savar municipality’s one number ward’s former councilor Hasan Master from his house this noon. I am vehemently condemning his unlawful arrest.

The incumbent government has been oppressing and harassing the leaders and activists of the opposition parties, particularly Jamaat-e-Islami severely. They are talking about democracy and election on one hand while on the other, they are keeping opposition men behind the bar for days. Actually, they do not believe in democracy. The countrymen think opposition leaders and activists are being arrested just to hinder the ongoing democratic and peaceful political program of the opposition quarters.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop oppression and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Hasan Master immediately.
