Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 30th December 2022 protesting and condemning the news of several media which quoted some police officials claiming that, “Jamaat has attacked the policemen’.

“As a part of the pre-declared program, Jamaat-e-Islami, Dhaka city North has arranged a mass procession today. At the onset of the program, police tried to obstruct it. Later, police attacked the protesters, disbursed tear shells, and charged batons which left more than 100 activists injured. Police shot rubber bullets that hit the head of an activist. Another 5 are suffering from critical injuries.

Jamaat activists have attacked the police members- such a claim is not true. Jamaat has no conflict or clash of interests with the law enforcers. So, there is no scope of attacking the policemen by the Jamaat activists. Some vested quarters are continuing propaganda against Jamaat activists just to tarnish the good image of the party and also to mislead the ongoing massive movement. I am urging the concerned quarters to be refrained from continuing such propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami.
