8 female activists arrested from Meherpur district; Acting Secretary General condemns

- Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 30th December 2022 protesting and condemning the arrest of 8 females of Mujibnagar Upazila under Meherpur district.

“Police arrested 8 female activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Mujibnagar Upazila under Meherpur district on 30th December. They were in a meeting as a part of their regular organizational activities. Without any reason, the incident of arresting such pious ladies is really unlawful, inhuman, and a sheer violation of human rights. We are vehemently condemning this arrest drive.

We want to clarify that, arresting pious ladies from an in-house meeting is nothing but an exposure of the government’s bankrupt and fascist approaches. No one even the kids and women is not safe under this regime. The government has been torturing and oppressing Meherpur district Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists for years. The arrest of these female activists is another aspect of the same repressive policies. But the Islamic movement will never be subdued through torture and repression.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including 8 female activists of Meherpur district Jamaat immediately.
