- Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 27th December 2022 protesting and condemning the arrests and harassment of the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir and other opposition parties.

Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir, and other opposition parties are being continuously harassed and arrested nationwide. On the last 25th of December, Narayanganj district Ameer Mominul Haq from a mosque while he was saying his Isha prayer in connection with a false and concocted case. Another 10 Jamaat leaders and activists were arrested from different parts of Chittagong city following a day-long arrest drive. A false case has been filed against 200 Jamaat leaders and activists of Cox’s Bazar district including district Ameer and Secretary. In addition, the law enforcers have been harassing and detaining the opposition leaders. In some places, they are vandalizing houses. I am severely condemning such arrest drives and harassment.

There is no existence of democracy, rule of law, and human rights in the country now. Public lives and properties are not secured. Human rights are being violated frequently. If these malpractices continue, peace and discipline nationwide will be disrupted. We are urging law enforcers to conduct their responsibilities professionally and not to harass the citizens anymore. Besides, I am insisting them to stop repression and torture and also release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir, and other opposition parties immediately.
