False case filed with Gulshan police station; Hamidur Rahman Azad condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 24th December 2022 protesting and condemning the new politically motivated case which has been lodged with Gulshan police station on last 17th December.

On last 17th December, a false and politically motivated case has been filed. The government became reckless and desperate with the ongoing mass movement and people’s spontaneous involvement with this movement. As a result, they filed false and fictitious cases not only against the present Jamaat leaders but also against the deceased ones. The case has been filed only to harass the party leaders politically. We are condemning such a false and intentional case.

We want to clarify that, the law enforcer’s main responsibility is to secure public lives and properties. But regrettably, we are observing that some members of law enforcement agencies are becoming involved in crimes like vandalizing the offices and institutions of the opposition leaders and activists and looting money. Reportedly, a sub-inspector led an incident of vandalizing a closed shop and subsequently looting cash from there. We are urging to bring those personnel to the book as per the departmental law and regulations of the concerned agency. Such financial scandals and propaganda from law enforcers are not expected at all. Every citizen of the country has the right to observe peaceful programs. The constitution has not given anyone the scope of intervening in those rights.

I am urging the concerned authorities to withdraw the false cases and also to be refrained from filing such cases in the future.
