7 leaders and activists arrested from Nilphamari; Acting Secretary General demands immediate release

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 23rd December 2022 protesting and condemning the arrest of 7 leaders and activists of Nilphamari district Jamaat including district Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Khairul Anam.

“Police conducted arrest drives in the houses of Nilphamari district Jamaat leaders and arrested 7 party leaders and activists including district’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Khairul Anam. Without any provocation, such arrests of the opposition leaders and activists are unjustified, undemocratic, inhuman, and unconstitutional. This arrest incident indicates that there is no presence of democracy and human rights in the country. We are protesting and condemning this arrest drive.

When the entire nation is becoming enraged against the unprecedented corruption, looting, and fascist activities of the government, at that time, opposition leaders and activists are being arrested in connection with some false cases just to divert public attention.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir including Dr. Khairul Anam and other detainees of Nilphamari district.
