Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Comilla, Dinajpur and B-Baria districts; Acting Secretary General condemns

-Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 18th December 2022 protesting and condemning the arrests of Jamaat leaders and activists from various processions nationwide which have been arranged on 17th December protesting the arrest of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

Without any provocation, police have arrested 10 Jamaat leaders and activists from processions in Dinajpur, Brahmanbaria, and Comilla districts. I am vehemently condemning these arrest drives.

While the countrymen became vocal against government’s unprecedented corruption, looting and fasicist activities, at that time, Jamaat leaders and activists are being arrested indiscriminately in connection with some false and fictious cases in order to divert public attention. A panic situation is being creared by conducting arrest drive in the houses and business institutions of Jamaat leaders. We want to assert that, the ongoing movement will not be subdued by continuing such arrest drive, arrest and repression.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all leaders and activists who have been detained from Dinajpur, Brahmanbaria and Commila immediately and unconditionally.
