7 BNP MPs resign from the Parliament; Professor Mujib hails; this step will intensify the ongoing movement, he adds

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 11 December 2022 hailing the 7 MPs of BNP for resigning from the parliament.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and other opposition parties have already declared simultaneous programs to press home 10-point demands that include establishing the caretaker government system and holding a free and fair election. These programs have inspired and motivated the nation. The latest incident of the resignation of 7 BNP MPs from the parliament will strengthen the ongoing simultaneous movement. For making the courageous steps of registration, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I would like to thank all the 7 MPs of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Earlier, in 1986, Jamaat’s 10 parliament members resigned from the parliament on 3rd December of 1987 at one stage of the severe movement. That resignation had intensified the then movement. Because of Jamaat MP’s resignation, the government became compelled to dissolve the parliament. Jamaat MPs had made a unique step to bolster the anti-tyranny government by resigning from the parliament. Their sacrifice and courage are regarded as historical steps.

Following the resignation of BNP MPs, the incumbent unelected parliament loses all credibility and ability to function. Under the circumstances, the countrymen expect immediate dismissal of the parliament followed by a fair and credible election under a caretaker government.
