Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Comilla, Lakhipur, Noakhali and Sylhet; Dr. Taher condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has issued the following statement on 7th December 2022 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 20 leaders and activists from Comilla district including Comilla south organizational district’s Assistant Secretary and Chouddogram Upazila Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman.

Police unjustifiably arrested 20 Jamaat leaders and activists from Comilla district including Comilla south organizational district’s Assistant Secretary and Chouddogram Upazila Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman district’s working committee member and Upazila secretary Belal Hossain, Assistant Secretary Muhammad Yasim Majumdar from the setup program of Kalikapur and Gholpasha union. Later, today on 7th December, police lodged a false and fabricated case against them in connection with Special Power Act 1974.

The setup program at the beginning of the year is a regular program of Jamaat-e-Islami. Arrest from such a casual program is regrettable and unjustified. We are condemning such arrest drives of the police forces.

The incumbent government is not elected and they have created a reign of terror nationwide already. In the last couple of days, the law enforcers have been carrying out raids in the house of the opposition leaders and activists and detaining many of them in connection with some false cases. Even, the personnel who had secured bail from the High Court, are being arrested from the lower court during their regular appearance. 30 leaders and activists of Lakhipur, Noakhali, and Sylhet have been sent to jail today as well.

I am urging the countrymen to raise their voices against the incumbent autocrat and tyrannical government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and also to release all detained leaders and activists immediately.
