- Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 7 December condemning the police attacks on BNP activists that left two activists killed in city’s Naya Paltan area today.

Police shots bullets, charges baton and tear shells against the BNP activists today as they gathered in front of the Naya Paltan central office as a part of organizing their predeclared meeting. Police at that time carried raid into the surrounding building and offices and caused a severe anarchic situation. Severe panic was created in the area since this dawn because of the police's exaggerated activities. Police opened fire on BNP men which left two party activists killed on the spot. We are vehemently condemning such murders. I am also making doa for the deceased souls and extending sympathy to the victim families and their relatives and colleagues. Besides, I am urging to take stern legal actions against the killers. We have no word to condemn the brutality, created by the law enforcers today.

This government has taken charge of the office forcibly and they are becoming desperate gradually. Already they became detached from the people because of their corruptions, looting, misrule and repression. They are thinking of restraining people by conducting these oppressions. However, we want to warn the government by saying that, 14 crore countrymen are united now against the authoritarian rule of the incumbent government. The people are ready to take part in the movement for establishing caretaker government system. So, people's just demand will never be subdued by continuing repression, torture, detention, merciless attacks and threats. We are urging to stop these misdeeds and to ensure the rights of the political parties to hold processions and gatherings. We are also calling upon to release all the detained political activists in order to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a fair and participatory elections under a neutral government immediately.
