7 leaders of Sylhet city Jamaat sent to jail; Acting Secretary General condemns

- Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 28th November 2022 protesting the arrests of 7 leaders of Sylhet city Jamaat-e-Islami including city Ameer, Nayeb-e-Ameer and Secretary.

7 leaders of Sylhet city Jamaat-e-Islami including city Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Nayeb-e-Ameer Sohel Ahmed and Secretary Shahjahan Ali were sent to jail today in connection with a false case. They had secured bail from the High court in this case earlier. However, as a part of their respect toward the law, they appeared before a court today during a regular hearing. They expected continuation of the bail status. But regrettably, the court cancelled their bail and sent to the jail. We condemn such move vehemently.

By sending them to the jail, the government intervened their fundamental rights which clearly contradicts the law and the constitution.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Sylhet city Ameer Fakhrul Islam immediately.
