Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 11th October 2022 protesting and condemning the arrest of 10 religious women from Mujibnagar Thana under Meherpur district.
“Police have arrested 10 decent and religious women from the house of Hazrat Ali, son of Hurmot Ali hailed from Nazirakona village from Mujibnagar Upazila under Meherpur district. The decent women were participating in a Siratunnabi (peace be upon Him). They were listening to the life and story of our beloved prophet (peace be upon Him). The ladies with religious attires were arrested from a religious program. It is the constitutional right of the citizen to observe the rituals. The government has no right to deprive citizens of such rights. By arresting them, the police have violated their religious rights which are very regretful and shameful incidents. I am vehemently condemning their arrest and lodging of a false case against them. I am urging the concerned authorities to release the 10 religious and decent women from Mujibnagar thana from the Meherpur district.
