-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 2nd August 2022 protesting and condemning the government’s decision of increasing the price of Urea fertilizer by 6 taka per kilogram.

“The government in the latest decision, taken on 1st August, decited to increase the price of Urea fertilizer by 6 taka per kilogram. The decision is totally illogical and it goes against the interest of the farmer community. We are condemning such illogical decisions of the government.

While taking office, the incumbent government declared to provide rice at 10 taka per kilogram and fertilizer at free of cost. Now free fertilizer is far away, in an arbitrary decision, and without any discussion, they increased the fertilizer price by 6 taka per kilogram. Public lives are highly disturbed in this tenure due to abnormal price hikes of the essentials.

The latest decision of increasing fertilizepricesce will create more pressure on the agricultural sector. The farmer will suffer for it and agro-based production will be hampered as well. In total, it will make a negative impact on the national economy.

I am urging the govenrnet to repeal their decision of increasing fertilizer prices immediately.
