Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 6th May, 2022 protesting the unjustified and abnormal price hike of cooking oil.
"Following a meeting on 5th May between the secretary of Commerce Ministry and the mill-owners, the government once again took the decision of increasing the price of cooking oil. According to their latest decision, soyabin oil's price has been increased 38 taka per litre and it has been fixred at 198 taka now. Unpacked oil's price is now 180 taka, which has been increased 44 taka per litre and palm oil has been increased 42 taka per liter and it is now fixed at 172 taka. The new price rate will come into effect from 7th May. Such an abnormal price hike is totally unjustified and it is not acceptable at all. It will intensify mass sufferings severely.
Already people are leading miserable lives due to excessive price hike of all essential commodities, so the latest price hike of cooking oil will make the situation worse. We are vehemently protesting and opposing government's decision of oil price hike.
Considering the sufferings of the people, I am urging the concerned authorities to withdraw their unjust decision of price hike immediately.
