Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 13th December, 2021 urging to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day on 14th December and Victory Day on next 16th of December.
Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day of Bangladesh is going to observed on 14th and 16th of December respectively. We are remembering the contributions of those martyred intellectuals and the veteran freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives to achieve the independence of this nation. We are praying for the salvation of their souls. We would like to recall all the freedom fighters who had taken part in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
The country is going to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day in period when the entire nation is suffering from a suffocating and critical situation. The nation is moving towards an uncertain destination as democracy is totally lost. There is no rule of law and human rights in the country. The authority has hijacked the voting rights and rights to expression of the citizens. Misrule and corruptions have engulfed the whole nation. People’s lives, properties and dignity became unsafe. Different quarters and sections also raised questions about the human rights, which is very shameful for all of us.
The opposition leaders and activists have been kept behind the bar for years unjustifiably. Harassments against the dissident people are still going on. Intellectuals, religious scholars are also detained. Authors, writers, journalists, academicians and the professionals are not spared from the repression of the government.
I am urging all wings and front organizations of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the fellow countrymen to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day on next 14th and 16th December by arranging discussions and prayer program with a vow to protect national independence and sovereignty.
Besides, I am hailing and congratulating my fellow countrymen on the occasion of Victory and expecting their progress, prosperities and welfare.
