Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 10 December 2021 protesting and condemning the recent incident as the law enforcers in plain cloths have detained Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajganj district’s Ullapara Upazila Ameer and district Jamaat’s working committee member Professor Shahjahan Ali while he was coming out of the prison following a bail order from the High Court.
Ullapara Upazila Jamaat Ameer and district Jamaat’s working committee member Professor Shahjahan Ali is a popular leader. He was elected vice-chairman of the Ullapara Upazila council. Being envious of his popularity, the government sued false case against him and kept him behind the bar for last 7 months. Recently, he was granted bail from the High Court and as such he was coming out of the jail today. But immediate after his exit, a group of plain-cloth dressed law enforcers again picked him up in a private car. There is no arrest of warrant against him. He has secured bail in all the cases. Despite that, he has been rearrested. This incident of rearrest is tantamount to show disrespect towards law and the judiciary. We are condemning such unjust, unlawful and illogical steps of the government.
I am urging the concerned authorities to give Professor Shahjahan Ali back to his family immediately.
