Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 2nd December, 2021 protesting and condemning the rearrest of Jamaat’s central executive committee member Principal Izzat Ullah from the jail gate.
“Government arrested 9 Jamaat leaders on last 6 September including party’s central executive committee member Principal Izzat Ullah. Following the arrest, they were sent to the prison in connection with a false case under anti-terrorism act. Mr. Izzat Ullah later granted bail from the High Court on 2nd December. We expected that, the authority would show due respect to the court order and release him within short span of time. But after completing all the release procedures, the authorities showed him arrested in another case just to keep him behind the bar for more days. These steps are tantamount to disregard the law and the court’s order. We are condemning such unlawful, illogical steps of the government.
I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Principal Izzat Ullah immediately.”
