Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 17 April 2021 expressing deep shock at the death of former Professor of Jahangirnagar University, political analyst and noted columnist Dr. TareqShamsur Rahman.

Dr. TareqShamsur Rahman was a former member of University grant commission and former chairman and retired professor of International Relations Department, Jahangirnagar University. Police have recovered his body after breaking doors of his Uttara residence in Dhaka this morning.InnalillahiWa Inna IlaihiRajiun. I am expressing deep shock at his death. He was alone in his home. So far, reason of his death is not revealed. I am urging the concerned authorities to disclose the reason behind his mysterious death.

Dr. TareqShamsur Rahman was a noted columnist. He wrote columns in different dailies. He wrote several books on global politics, international relations and foreign policies. The nation lost a great academician at his demise. This vacuum will not be fulfilled easily. I am praying for the salvation of his soul and extending deep shock to his family members and relatives.
