Nationwide arrest drive continues against Jamaat leaders and activists; Secretary General condemns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 12 September 2020 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of Jamaat leaders and activists including 9 people from Chapai Nawabganj's Nachol and 3 men from Rangpur district's Pirganj upazila.

The law enforcers arrested 3 from Pirganj and sued false case against 167 others in order to harass them politically. Police also arrested 9 other activists from Chapainawabganj today.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematism and democratic political party. Jamaat works for the welfare of the country. The leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami are not involved with any unjust and prohibited tasks. They always play constructive roles for the betterment of the nation. Police unlawfully arrested Jamaat leaders and activists and filed false cases against them just to create hindrances in their humanitarian activities.

The nation is experiencing different types of crimes including robbery, hijacking and rapes. People are being murdered alarmingly everyday. The law enforcers are not detaining those offenders, rather they are arresting the people who are involved with noble deeds. But Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not be exterminated through such suppression.

We are urging the authorities to stop their oppression and tortures and to release all the innocent detainees immediately.
