Daily ‘Sangram office vandalized, editor arrested; Jamaat Ameer expresses concern

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 13 December, 2019 expressing deep concern over the incident of vandalizing the office of Bengali daily ‘Sangram’, miscreant’s attack on its editor and his subsequent arrest.

“We are deeply worried and concerned as the miscreants have attacked the office of the oldest Bengali daily Daily Sangram and vandalized its precious furniture.

Attack against Abul Asad, a veteran journalist and the editor of the national daily is really unfortunate. Such an attack on a newspaper and its journalists is huge blow against the constitution, freedom of speech, human rights and rule of law. The people do not want to experience such regrettable incident again.

We are pressing our demand seeking immediate release of Mr. Abul Asad. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to ensure security and safety of the newspaper, journalists and press communities.
