Prime Minister signs MoU that allows India to withdraw Feni river water; Mia Golam Porwar expresses concern

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 5 October 2019 expressing deep concern as a MoU has been signed between India and Bangladesh during the ongoing visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in which Bangladesh has agreed to allow India to withdraw 1.82 cusec of water from trans-border Feni river.

“By allowing India to withdraw 1.82 cusec of water from trans-border Feni river, Bangladeshi Premier has foiled the national interest. I am expressing deep concern in this regard.

Prior to the Premier’s visit, different political parties of Bangladesh had urged the Prime Minister not to foil country’s interest. Rather they pressed her to ensure due share of Padma and Teesta river’s water. But it is a matter of great regret that, instead of securing national policy, she had disregarded the national interest again. The people of Bangladesh are highly aggrieved and saddened over such move.

The countrymen are still in dark whether any discussion had taken place about securing the due share of Padma and Teesta river or not. Furthermore, she has given up the rights over Feni river. Her move has frustrated the entire nation. The fellow countrymen are really concerned and worried as the Prime Minister has miserably failed once again to attain country’s interest.
