Virtual meeting held between Jamaat Ameer and representative of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman held a virtual meeting today, 16 January, at 10:00 a.m. with Mr. Bruce Sower, the representative of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Joining from the Australian side were Assistant Director of the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives Desk Ms. Stacey Lee Walker, Assistant Director of Bangladesh Desk-1 (Bilateral) Ms. Brooke Simpson, and Assistant Director of Bangladesh Desk-2 (Rohingya) Ms. Mish Khan.

In the virtual meeting, Jamaat-e-Islami’s positive role in ensuring the peaceful conduct of Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for 12 February and in making democracy meaningful was highlighted. Detailed discussions were also held on bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and Australia, as well as future economic cooperation. In addition, considering Australia as an important development partner, the possibility of support from the Australian government for Bangladesh’s skill development programs was discussed as well.

Among others, spokesperson for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Europe Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, Jamaat Ameer's advisor on Foreign Affairs Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan; prominent Bangladeshi expatriate Dr. Abdul Mannan; Barrister Osman Gani; and Mr. Ahmadullah Sadi were present on the occasion.
