On Wednesday, 14 January, at 7:00 pm, a high-level 10-member delegation of the Christian community of Bangladesh, led by American academic Dr. Gordon Klingenschmitt, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at the party’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
During the meeting, there were positive discussions on various aspects of religious harmony in Bangladesh, the rights of the minorities, mutual coexistence, and the maintenance of social peace.
At the meeting, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that Bangladesh is a multi-religious and multicultural country. Ensuring the religious freedom and security of all citizens of the country is the responsibility of the state. Jamaat-e-Islami has always stood for the rights, dignity, and justice of people regardless of religion or ethnicity.
On behalf of the delegation, various social and religious issues concerning the Christian community in Bangladesh were highlighted, and the hope was expressed that mutual understanding and cooperation would be further strengthened. Dr. Gordon Klingenschmitt praised the cordial relations that exist among people of different religions in Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of continuing such dialogue.
Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, educationist Dr. Zubair Ahmed; and cultural personality Professor Saifullah Mansur accompanied the Jamaat Ameer at that time.
Members of the delegation included General Secretary of the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh Martha Dash, Chairman of the Bangladesh Evangelical Revival Church Reverend Bonnie Baroi, former legislator of Teachers for Pastors in Bangladesh, Dr. Gordon, among others were also present on the occasion.
After the meeting, Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair along with the Christian community delegation briefed the journalists.
