On October 22 (Wednesday) evening, a nine-member delegation from the United States–based International Republican Institute (IRI) met with the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the party’s central office. The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
The IRI delegation included Christopher Fasner, and Lisa Curtis, Senior Fellow of the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS); Technical Expert Jessica Keegan; Resident Program Director Steve Seema; Program Director (NDI) Jamie Spikerman; Campaign and Consulting Advisor John Fluharty; Consultant Darin Bielecki; Program Consultant Amitav Ghosh; and Advisor Saida Musharafa Jahan.
Among the Jamaat leaders, party’s central executive council member Mobarak Hossain, member of the Central Working Committee and President of the Bangladesh Lawyers’ Council Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, and Dr. Zubair Ahmed were present at that time.
During the meeting, they held detailed discussions on the overall situation in Bangladesh—particularly on issues related to the judicial process, state reforms, and the progress toward holding a free, fair, and participatory election.
