Meeting Jamaat-e-Islami's Central Executive Council held

A meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held today, 19 October (Sunday), at 11:00 a.m., presided over by the party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Professor Mujibur Rahman. Members of the Central Executive Council were present at the meeting.

The meeting expressed deep concern and condemnation over the incident of the July warriors being injured in an attack carried out by the law enforcement agencies on 17 October. The Council also demanded that the government immediately withdraw all cases filed against the injured individuals.

The Central Executive Council has observed that the government is showing undue delay in holding a referendum to give legal basis to the July National Charter, which is a matter of grave concern for the nation. Some quarters have proposed holding the referendum and the national election on the same day a proposal that, in the opinion of the Council, is unrealistic and immature. If both are held on the same day, the significance of the referendum will be severely undermined. Such an action would amount to deceiving the nation and would throw the referendum process into uncertainty. This is because if voting at any polling center in the national election is postponed, the referendum at that center would also be halted a situation that is totally unacceptable.

In this context, the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami strongly urges the interim government to immediately issue an order for the implementation of the July National Charter and to arrange the referendum within November. In line with the results of that referendum, necessary preparations must also be taken to hold the national election in February.

The Central Executive Council of Jamaat-e-Islami has also expressed deep concern over the Election Commission’s decision to withdraw from installing CCTV cameras at polling centers. The Election Commission has pledged to ensure that the national election is free, fair, transparent, and credible. To fulfill that pledge, the installation of CCTV cameras at every polling center is essential. This would allow the nation to observe the voting process directly, prevent vote rigging and manipulation, and help build public confidence.

In this regard, the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami strongly urges the government and the Election Commission to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras at every polling center to guarantee a free, fair, transparent, and credible national election.
