On Thursday, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, had a courtesy meeting with the Honorable Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Ajit Singh. The meeting and breakfast session took place on 16th October morning at the Ameer-e-Jamaat’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Canadian High Commission's Political Counsellor Mr. Marcus Davies, Senior Trade Commissioner Ms. Debra Boyes, and Political Adviser Mr. Nisar Ahmed accompanied the H.E. High Commissioner.
The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere. At the beginning of the discussion, the Honorable High Commissioner inquired about Jamaat Ameer's health condition and wished him a speedy and complete recovery.
During the meeting, the upcoming national election in Bangladesh was described as a significant milestone on the country’s democratic path. Jamaat Ameer sought Canada’s overall cooperation and technical assistance to ensure a free, fair, and credible election. Constructive discussions were also held on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring the independence and effective role of democratic institutions.
Both sides expressed hope that in the future, bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada would expand further and become even stronger.
Jamaat Ameer at that time was accompanied by the party’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; Central Executive Committee Member Mobarak Hossain; and Jamaat Ameer's Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan.
