Courtesy meeting held between Jamaat Ameer and the UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka

Ms. Gwyn Lewis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Dhaka held a courtesy meeting with the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday, October 7. She was accompanied by Ms. Huma Khan, Human Rights Adviser to the UN Resident Representative.

The meeting and the breakfast session took place at 9:00 a.m. at the Jamaat Ameer’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.

During the meeting, constructive discussions were held on various important issues, including the existing human rights and political situation in Bangladesh, the Rohingya crisis, and the forthcoming national elections.

It was emphasized that the upcoming national election is extremely important for Bangladesh, and the cooperation and technical assistance of the United Nations were sought to ensure that it is conducted freely, fairly, and credibly. The meeting also expressed hope for the UN’s continued support in protecting the rights of women in Bangladesh, enhancing their skills in the workplace, and contributing to the country’s overall development.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar, and Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem (Arman) accompanied the Jamaat Ameer at that time.
