Courtesy meeting held between Jamaat leaders with the Honorable UK Trade Envoy Baroness Rosie Winterton

On October 6 (Monday) at 3 p.m. a high-level six-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, led by Nayeb-e-Ameer and former Member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman, met with the visiting British trade envoy Baroness Rosie Winterton, in a courtesy meeting held at the British High Commission in Dhaka. The meeting took place in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Jamaat's central media and publicity department's secretary and party’s central Executive Council Member Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, and Member of the Central Executive Council Mobarak Hossain, Mrs. Syeda Rumman, Assistant Secretary of the Central Women’s Department Mrs. Syeda Rumman, Secretary of the Central Women’s Department for Human Resources, Law, and Human Rights Advocate Sabikun Nahar Munni, and Assistant Secretary of the Women’s Department of Dhaka City South Jamaat Dr. Shahana Parvin accompanied Professor Mujibur Rahman.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on Bangladesh’s current political situation, the upcoming national election, and the overall progress in trade and commerce — particularly in the garments, pharmaceutical, agricultural, education, and economic sectors. The two sides also exchanged views on how the United Kingdom could play a role in increasing investment in Bangladesh and further strengthening bilateral relations.

In addition, the participants discussed the significant role of women in Bangladesh’s economic development and explored the potential for enhancing their involvement in the handicraft and cottage industries. Both parties also expressed interest in expanding the UK’s cooperation and participation in women’s skill development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening mutual cooperation, development, and progress between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in the days to come.
