Meeting held between Jamaat representatives and the Honorable Australian High Commissioner Ms. Susan Ryle

On 10 September (Wednesday) afternoon, a delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami met with the Honorable Australian High Commissioner Ms. Susan Ryle. The meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere at the residence of the Honorable High Commissioner. Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, Political First Secretary Anna Peterson, along with five other representatives were present at the meeting.

The Jamaat-e-Islami delegation was led by it’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former Member of Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher. Other members included Central Executive Committee Member and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Central Working Committee Member of the Women’s Division Advocate Sabikun Nahar Munni, and Dr. Habiba Chowdhury Sweet.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the upcoming national parliamentary election of Bangladesh, the proportional representation (PR) system, and Jamaat’s role in making democracy meaningful. In addition, Jamaat’s views on women’s rights, and on women’s free participation in economic, social, and administrative sectors were highlighted. The potential of Bangladesh’s economy, particularly in the energy and garments sectors, was also elaborately discussed. On this occasion, the Australian High Commissioner praised the role of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in building a corruption-free country.
