Emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held

On August 19 (Tuesday) afternoon, an emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held at the party’s central office under the chairmanship of the party's Nayeb-e-Ameer, and former Member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman.

Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam (former MP), Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar (former MP), Assistant Secretary Generals Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad (former MP), Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Moyazzem Hossain Helal, and Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; Central Executive Council members Mr. Abdur Rob, Mr. Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Principal Shahabuddin, Principal Izzat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain, and Md. Selim Uddin were present during the meeting.

A detailed discussion was held in the meeting on the July National Charter provided by the Consensus Commission. Following the discussion, it was decided to hold talks with the Consensus Commission on certain issues of the July National Charter.

On behalf of the Central Executive Council of Jamaat-e-Islami, a strong demand was made to the interim government to provide legal legitimacy to the July National Charter through either a Presidential Proclamation or a referendum. At the same time, a strong demand was raised to ensure the legal basis of the July National Charter as a step towards restoring democracy, and to hold the upcoming national parliamentary election on that very basis.
