On Tuesday night, 19 August, a three-member delegation of the U.S.-based International Republican Institute (IRI) met with the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the party’s central office. The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
The IRI delegation included Mr. Stephen Sima, Director of IRI’s Asia-Pacific Region; Mr. Matthew Carter, Deputy Director; and Mr. Amitava Ghosh, Senior Program Manager. Among the Jamaat leaders, its Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, and Central Working Committee Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar were present on the occasion.
During the meeting, they held detailed discussions regarding the overall situation in Bangladesh following the 2024 mass uprising, particularly focusing on the judicial process, state reforms, and the progress toward holding free, fair, and participatory elections.
