-Professor Mia Golam Porwar

On 18 August, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, held separate meetings at the Secretariat with the Advisers for Education, Home, Water Resources, and Forest & Environment. During the meetings, he exchanged views regarding the resolution of various problems and development issues in Dumuria and Phultala of Khulna district.

Professor Mia Golam Porwar met with the Education Adviser, Professor Dr. C. R. Abrar, and discussed the problems of various educational institutions in Dumuria and Phultala, their development and infrastructure construction, inclusion under MPO (Monthly Pay Order), etc. He requested the Advisor to take necessary steps for improving the quality of education, addressing problems in the education system, and expediting infrastructural development. The Education Adviser listened attentively and assured him that the matter would be duly considered.

Professor Mia Golam Porwar also met with the Home Adviser, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. In this meeting, he strongly raised the issue of withdrawing the politically motivated false cases filed against Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and workers during the past fascist regime. He also highlighted the issues of maintaining law and order in the area and the threats and intimidation by a certain political group against the Hindu community. The Home Adviser listened carefully to the Secretary General’s remarks and instructed the concerned authorities to take necessary measures in this regard.

Later, Professor Mia Golam Porwar met with the Water Resources, Forest & Environment Adviser, Syeda Rezwana Hasan, and presented the dire situation of long-term waterlogging in Khulna’s Beel Dakatia, Beel Salatia, Beel Baruna, Beel Madhugram, Beel Baduria, and other areas of the region. He said that for years the people of the region have been suffering—arable land is being ruined, houses are being submerged, and normal life has become disrupted.

The Advisor listened to Professor Golam Porwar’s views with importance and immediately announced the formation of a special committee comprising responsible officials of the concerned departments. This committee will take effective steps in a short time to resolve the waterlogging crisis. At the same time, she assured that the government would provide the necessary machinery, equipment, and other assistance. She further stated that the government is sincere about finding a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem in this region and that visible initiatives will be taken soon. The Secretary General welcomed the government’s initiative and expressed hope for its speedy implementation.
