“We have witnessed many rulers – they were not true rulers but oppressors, claims Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that we have seen many forms of governance, but none were true leadership; instead, they were exploiters. “Now, we want honest rulers. We want the rule of the Quran.” He expressed his desire to struggle in the path of religion until his last breath and to depart from this world as a martyr.

Dr. Shafiqul Rahman spoke these words as the chief guest at a road rally organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in Dakop Upazila of Khulna district on Tuesday morning, July 22, held at the local Chalna Billalia Alim Madrasa ground.

The event was chaired by the acting Ameer of Dakop Upazila, Maulana G.M. Akhtaruzzaman, and hosted by Secretary Maulana Md. Wahiduzzaman. Special guests included Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar.

Besides, leaders from various levels of the district were also present.

Recalling falling ill twice at Jamaat’s national assembly, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “That day I was almost gone.” He reaffirmed his commitment to fight in the path of religion until his last breath and to depart as a martyr.

The Jamaat Ameer also said that Maulana Abu Sayeed was martyred while participating in a program of the Islamic movement. In the movement of 2024, another Abu Sayeed was martyred. He asked Allah to accept all those who were martyred across the country, including two Ameers of the organization, during the reign of oppressive rulers.

He further mentioned that many students and teachers died in a recent military training plane crash, and doctors are worried about 30 more in critical condition. He prayed to Allah to heal those hospitalized and bring them back to their families safely.

Earlier, at around 10 a.m., the Jamaat Ameer landed at the BM Gas Company helipad in Chalna, Dakop Upazila, Khulna. From there, he visited the home of the late Dakop Upazila Ameer, Shaheed Maulana Abu Sayeed, where he met with the family, creating an emotional atmosphere. Later, he visited Abu Saeed’s grave at the Chalna government municipal cemetery. After paying respects at the grave and meeting the family, he visited Maulana Anisur Rahman and Kamal Hossain, who were injured in the accident, and inquired about their treatment. He prayed for their speedy recovery.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that despite doctors advising full rest after falling ill twice at the national assembly, the Jamaat Ameer rushed to this region. “May Allah accept him and all those who have been martyred in the path of Islam. The people of Dakop are blessed by the Jamaat Ameer’s presence today.” He thanked everyone for organizing the program in an orderly manner.

In the afternoon, the Jamaat Ameer left Dakop by helicopter from the BM Gas Company helipad, heading to the home of martyr Mostafizur Rahman Kalam in Ishwardi, Pabna.
It is notable that on July 19, while on his way to the national rally of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, at around 2:45 a.m. at the Bhanga intersection in Faridpur, Dakop Upazila Ameer Maulana Abu Sayeed (52) was killed after being hit by a fast-moving Royal Transport bus. Jamaat workers Md. Anisur Rahman and Md. Iqbal Hossain were seriously injured. After treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, they were admitted to Chalna Health Complex and are now out of danger.
