Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has said, “We are expecting a good election. If honest leadership comes through a fair election, the country will change within just five years, Insha’Allah. No one should try to make the election questionable. No one should betray with the blood of the martyrs. We do not want to see any election that dishonors the blood of the martyrs. To uphold the sanctity of their sacrifice, there must be a fair, proper, and acceptable election. The people of Bangladesh do not welcome foreign interference in our elections. Likewise, we do not wish to interfere in the affairs of other countries. We want to see everyone as friends.”
He made these remarks during an exchange of views with professionals from various fields at the Kulaura Municipality Auditorium in Moulvibazar district on Sunday (8 June) at 12 noon.
He further said, “We want to see a society free from vengeance. I am a son of this upazila; they even tried to file a war crimes case against me. At that time, I wasn’t even old enough, and I wasn’t involved with any organization in that sense. Just because I became the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, they tried to label me a war criminal. Not once or twice, but many times they tried in vain. Yet not a single person in Kulaura accepted their claims. I can never repay this debt in my lifetime. I am forever grateful to the people of Kulaura. I know who tried to label me a war criminal—but I will not seek revenge. If we keep indulging in vengeance and retaliation, society will turn into one of evil forces. We won’t be able to build a humane society. However, those who have committed crimes must face justice. We firmly demand this, and there will be no compromise on that point.”
Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, further stated, “If corruption and syndicates can be properly identified and subsequently destroyed, all syndicates will fall apart. The existing resources of the country are sufficient to bring about transformation in Bangladesh. We must replace miseducation with true education. Due to the toxic influence of cultural degradation, the structure of our families is nearly in disarray. If the national education curriculum and modules are developed based on morality, only then will education be truly complete.
From beggars to the wealthiest individuals—everyone pays taxes. The government uses that tax money for various development projects, including educational institutions. Thanks to their donations and contributions, we have become highly educated and reached this position in society. Therefore, we are all accountable to the nation. Every brick, grain of sand, and stone in government institutions carries the sweat and toil of 180 million people of this country. If this sense of responsibility could be instilled in the minds of the educated, their hands and feet would tremble before accepting a single taka bribe. If we can integrate this moral obligation into our education system, our educated population will become a true asset to the nation.”
