Jamaat-e-Islami aims to build a welfare-oriented, self-reliant ideal state – Dr. Taher

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher stated that Jamaat-e-Islami is working to establish honest and competent leadership at all levels of society and state. He emphasized that the party’s vision is to transform Bangladesh into a welfare-oriented, self-reliant ideal state.

He made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing members’ training conference on Friday, May 30 at 8:00 AM at the RB Convention Hall in Bahaddarhat, Chattogram.
Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, also addressed the program as the special guest. The Darsul Qur’an (Qur’anic lecture) was delivered by Principal Maulana Khairul Bashar. The event was presided over by Jamaat’s central working committee member, Chittagong city Jamaat Ameer and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury. The session was conducted by Central Majlis-e-Shura member, and Secretary of Chattogram Metropolitan Jamaat, and Jamaat's nominated parliamentary candidate for Chattogram-2 (Fatikchhari) Principal Muhammad Nurul Amin.

Other notable attendees included Central Majlis-e-Shura member and Nayeb-e-Ameer of Chattogram City Jamaat Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Assistant Secretaries of Chattogram City Jamaat Mohammad Ullah and Faisal Muhammad Yunus, Organizational Secretary of Chattogram city Jamaat, former Ward Councilor, and Jamaat-nominated candidate for Chattogram-10 constituency Shamsuzzaman Helali, Jamaat-nominated candidate for Chattogram-9 constituency Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque, Sramik Kollan Federation Chottogram City President S.M. Lutfor Rahman, Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for Chattogram-11 constituency Shafiul Alam and Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Principal Maulana Zaker Hossain, Professor Muhammad Saifullah, Hamed Hasan Elahi, Amir Hossain, Fakhre Jahan Siraji, Muhammad Ismail, and Engineer Mahbubul Hasan Rumi.

The training session brought together key leaders, organizers, and nominated candidates, emphasizing Jamaat’s strategic preparation for upcoming elections and broader efforts to reshape the country’s political and governance landscape.

Speaking at the gathering, Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher highlighted the necessity of transforming society. He stated, slogans alone cannot bring about social change. We must properly guide our society. To achieve this, he emphasized the need to establish more educational institutions and cultural initiatives while also nurturing families based on Islamic values.

He further added that it is possible to build a well-organized society by establishing Islamic teachings and culture at every level of society. Providing assurance to attendees, Dr. Taher stated that if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, the people of the country will see new leadership. Addressing concerns about women's dignity, he clarified: “We assure you, if Allah grants Jamaat-e-Islami the opportunity to govern, the honor and dignity of women will only be enhanced.”

He also criticized the political trajectory of post-independence Bangladesh, claiming that a healthy political culture was never established. Criticizing the autocratic leadership of Sheikh Hasina, he said that she has tried to preserve her father’s BAKSAL (one-party rule) ideology, which has failed to deliver effective development for the nation.

Dr. Taher asserted that Jamaat-e-Islami desires a fair election and aims to bring momentum to the country’s political reforms. “Our sole ideology is Islam,” he said. “Jamaat-e-Islami's primary objective is to convey the message of Islamic movement to the common people and connect with them deeply.”

In his address, Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan remarked that the concept of Muamalat (dealings or transactions) is not limited to monetary exchanges. He elaborated, “There are two types of rights: the rights of Allah and the rights of His servants. These two are deeply interconnected. Humanity must be developed through faith and discipline.”

He further noted that fulfilling Allah’s rights cannot be achieved through personal worship alone. “Carrying out the responsibilities of Khilafah (Islamic leadership) is extremely challenging. We must prepare for this by establishing regular prayer, fasting, and zakat. We must aim to be either a Gazi (victorious fighter) or a Shaheed (martyr),” he urged.

In his concluding remarks, City Jamaat Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury stated that all organizational leaders and activists must uphold full loyalty and discipline at every level of the movement.
