Iftar gathering in honor of the injured, martyr families, and distinguished individuals of the July uprising

Jamaat-e-Islami considers martyrs and injured as national assets

–Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami values martyrs and those who have endured injuries and disabilities as national assets, said Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami does not and will not treat martyrs the way others do. Jamaat-e-Islami stands with the families of both martyrs and living martyrs," he added.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at an iftar gathering organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South on Monday (March 3) to honor the injured, disabled, martyr families, and distinguished individuals.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the suffering of martyr families, stating, "Parents who lost their children, wives who lost their husbands, and children who lost their parents had iftar and sehri together last Ramadan. This year, they cannot partake in those meals with the same satisfaction due to their painful memories. This grief is unbearable.

He announced that this Eid would be celebrated with martyr families and those injured or disabled. He also mentioned that a commemorative publication on martyrs would be delivered to every martyr's family right after Eid.

The iftar gathering was presided over by Jamaat’s Dhaka South City Ameer and party’s central executive council member Nurul Islam Bulbul. As a special guest, Jamaat’s central executive council member Mobarok Hossain stated, "No one has seriously considered the sacrifices of those whose blood secured this country’s independence. Only Jamaat-e-Islami, under the directives of its Ameer, has provided financial aid of 200,000 BDT to each martyr's family and has actively assisted the injured to ensure their medical treatment and rehabilitation." He pointed to the presence of martyr families and injured individuals at the event as proof of this commitment.

He further stated that historical narratives of Bangladesh’s movements in 1952, 1969, 1971, and 1990 have been distorted. "The history of 2024 will not be allowed to be distorted. That is why a 10-volume, 2,500-page historical compilation has been published, documenting the identities of martyrs, their roles in mass uprisings, the events leading to their martyrdom, and the locations associated with these incidents. Jamaat-e-Islami will not let this history be erased," he affirmed.

Addressing the martyr families and injured individuals present, he declared, "The new Bangladesh belongs to you. It is your responsibility to uphold the achievements of the mass uprising."

Nurul Islam Bulbul in his address said that those who were injured or left disabled while fighting to free the nation from the fascist rule of the Awami League are considered Ghazis (warriors) in Islam, and all those who fell victim to mass killings are martyrs. He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami had sown the seeds of a just and discrimination-free Bangladesh from its very inception. "Our martyrs dreamt of building a nation based on justice and equality. Jamaat-e-Islami has been fighting for this cause for decades. In 2024, the students and people of this country have realized that our struggle was always righteous. They have risked their lives out of love for the country and have freed Bangladesh from the grip of fascism."

The discussion meeting, hosted by Dhaka South City Jamaat secretary and Jamaat’s working committee member Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. The program was also attended by several key figures, including, Jamaat’s Central Majlis-e-Shura member & Nayeb-e-Ameer of Dhaka City South Abdus Sabur Fakir and Dr. Advocate Helal Uddin, Dhaka south city Jamaat’s assistant secretary Muhammad Deloar Hossain, Dr. Abdul Mannan, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, and Md.
