Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, said, "India has never wanted Bangladesh to stand strong in the world. Even after 53 years of independence, India has failed to show signs of friendship. Building the Farakka Dam and stopping the water flow in the dry season, and releasing water during the monsoon to cause floods, and killing Bangladeshi citizens like animals at the border can never be the role of a friendly nation. As a state, we never consider India as our enemy. However, the ruling establishment of India has repeatedly tried to attack our sovereignty and independence."
He made these remarks while addressing a discussion meeting as the chief guest organized by Dhaka City South Jamaat-e-Islami on the occasion of Martyred' Intellectuals Day at the National Press Club on Saturday, December 14. The discussion meeting was presided over by the Dhaka City South Ameer Mohammad Nurul Islam Bulbul, and was hosted city Secretary and Jamaat’s central working committee member Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. Among others, Dhaka City South Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Abdul Sabur Fakir, city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Delwar Hossain, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, and Dr. Abdul Mannan addressed the program.
Professor Mia Golam Parwar further stated, "The two main reasons why they [India] helped us during the war of liberation are as follows: First, they provided weapons and soldiers to take revenge for the defeat, they had embraced in 1965 war against Pakistan. Second, Bangladesh is surrounded by India on all sides, and if they could separate this land from Pakistan, India could use it like one of its own states."
He continued, "On December 14, they specifically targeted and killed the intellectuals, the bright sons of the nation. The perpetrators of these killings have still not been revealed and identified. There is still time to identify those involved in the intellectuals' killings. After the country’s independence, renowned filmmaker Zahir Raihan began working on a documentary in order to reveal the real mystery. But suddenly, he became disappeared. To this day, neither he nor the documentary has been found. To uncover the real mystery of the intellectuals’ killings, it is necessary to retrieve Zahir Raihan's documentary."
In his presidential speech, Mohammad Nurul Islam Bulbul said, "Who, on the eve of victory, the miscreants specifically targeted and killed journalists, artists, researchers, and teachers – the intellectuals. It is clear that the imperialists are involved in these killings. We must uncover this mystery and bring the perpetrators to justice. The imperialist forces have killed top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, scholars, and many prominent personalities of this country as it may cause another vacuum in the country.
